I have studied DBMS indexing (sparse, dense, indexes based on a secondary key, etc.) and hashing in DBMS (extendable, linear), but I still don't grasp the distinction between the two. Are these two methods combined or are they each utilized separately? I'm perplexed since both ways seem to be intended to make it quick for us to obtain the data, therefore I believe one should be adequate.
Can somebody explain the differences?
